Benefits Of Shopping At Goodwill

Goodwill stores provide a service to the community by offering new and gently used goods at a low cost, while acting as a training ground in retail for persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment.  Store sales help finance Goodwill's job training and employment service programs.  In fact, 89 cents of every dollar spent at a store helps fund Goodwill's programs and services.  All stores carry gently-used clothing, toys, furniture and household items at affordable prices.  Donations  may be dropped off at any of our 6 Goodwill stores or one of our 5 free-standing Attended Donation Centers.

Go treasure-hunting today at shopgoodwill.com

In 2006, we began posting selected donations of specialized interest or higher intrinsic value on shopgoodwill.com, the virtual auction channel of the national Goodwill movement. Our online business complements rather than competes with our bricks-and-mortar stores by enabling us to reach a worldwide audience, and maximize the price received for our auction item through competitive bidding.

For Goodwill program graduates, shopgoodwill.com combines a unique hands-on learning experience and full-time paid employment, in a field with unlimited career potential. Operating our online auction site enables an individual to acquire online research skills, a fund of knowledge about antiques, art, collectibles, books and other unusual “finds”, and the ability to communicate that knowledge to potential buyers worldwide through sales copy that is compelling and factually accurate.

The wide range of skills needed to successfully operate this dynamic real-time business also includes heavy customer service...merchandise selection, digital imaging and presentation skills...monitoring of bidding, verification of winning bids and shipping. Team members who choose to move into community employment will be competitive candidates for positions in many fields and industries.

Through the generosity of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, we were able to expand our shopgoodwill.com enterprise in early 2008. The Foundation’s grant was utilized for equipment purchases that have substantially improved logistics and streamlined processes related to the presentation, management and shipping of auction items, which enables our shopgoodwill team to devote additional time to training and research. As a result, everyone’s skills are continuously improving in all areas...and our team is proudly providing a continuously enhanced, high-quality auction experience for our online customers...as well as increased revenue that enables us to assist other needy people to achieve meaningful employment and self-sufficiency.

We are deeply grateful to the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo for its generous support of this endeavor!
