Rare Pyrex Sells for Record Price!

You can always find unique treasures on shopgoodwill.com, Goodwill's online auction site. But this week, Pyrex collectors everywhere watched in anticipation as one of the most coveted pieces of Pyrex went up for auction. "Lucky in Love" is an extremely rare round covered casserole dish that was a 1959 promotional piece. Most collectors had only seen it in a book and thought they would never see one in real life. Some collectors doubted it even existed!

Jackie Walker, an Assistant Manager in Goodwill of Western New York's Donated Goods/Retail Division knew she found something special when sorting through a box of donated Pyrex and unwrapped the dish decorated with hearts and shamrocks. "I had never seen anything like that before," said Walker. She immediately contacted Goodwill's shopgoodwill.com manager, Christine Black who researched the piece. Kristin Walker, e-commerce lister for shopgoodwill.com, photographed and listed the "holy grail of Pyrex" on Goodwill's auction site.

Excitement continued to build, and the interest in the piece skyrocketed as news spread throughout the Pyrex collector community. Goodwill's social media exploded with close to 10,000 views, multiple comments and 52 shares. The listing was viewed over 19,000 times on shopgoodwill.com, and 60 bidders vied for the coveted piece.

In the end, one lucky bidder won "Lucky in Love" with a final bid of $5,994, the highest amount ever bid on Goodwill of WNY's online auction site!

Our story was featured in the August 21, 2017 edition of Antique Week and antiqueweek.com.
