Now in its 23rd year, the Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale is Goodwill’s largest and longest-standing cause partnership and department store donation drive.
Bon-Ton shoppers have generously donated and changed lives in our community through the Goodwill Sale held each spring and fall. The community is encouraged to get involved by donating items such as clothing, accessories, shoes and household textiles, which are sold in Goodwill’s stores to create job training and placement programs for people with barriers to employment who are unemployed or underemployed. In return donors receive valuable money-saving Bon-Ton coupons. “We pride ourselves on being a hometown shopping destination, and supporting Goodwill of Western New York through this sale is both a natural extension of that commitment as well as a critically important component of it,” said William Tracy, president and CEO of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “Along with our customers, we’re able to see the direct positive impact this partnership brings to the communities we serve.”
In 2016, Bon-Ton customers in Western New York donated an amazing total of 72,941 pounds of clothing, textiles and household items. We are always amazed at not just the quantity, but the quality, of the donations Bon-Ton shoppers donate to us. These contributions generated countless hours of job placement, job training, skills enrichment and other services, such as financial education and mentoring, for people right here in Western New York. Just one bag of clothes creates one hour of on-the-job training for someone who needs employment assistance. If customers do not have items to donate, they are able to donate $1 to Goodwill at any Bon-Ton register and receive a Goodwill Sale coupon. One hundred percent of the cash donation benefits programs at Goodwill. In 2016 alone, Bon-Ton donated $15,096 to our Goodwill!
Each Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale kicks off with a Stuff the Truck event held at the Eastern Hills Mall Bon-Ton store complete with a live radio remote and radio station on air personalities to provide fun and prizes to add to the excitement. The Eastern Hills Mall Bon-Ton collected 13,143 lbs. of donations in support of Goodwill’s mission in 2016!
